Zawinul Syndicate with Richard Bona: Carnavalito

The Zawinul Syndicate’s performance at the North Sea Jazz festival in 1997 included Richard Bona on bass, and all of the videos I’ve seen from that performance have been stellar.

This live performance of “Carnavalito”, originally recorded on the Black Water album, features Zawinul’s Weather Report bandmate Manolo Badrena on percussion and vocals, with newcomers Paco Sery on drums and Gary Poulson on guitar.

I sure miss Zawinul.

  3. I saw Zawinul’s Syndicate at the 2005 North Sea Jazz Festival; the best concert I’ve been to so far. It was his last one. The band featured the incredible Linley Marthe on bass. The complete band consisted of: Joe Zawinul (vocals, keyboards); Arto Tuncboyaciyan, Aziz Sahmaoui (vocals, percussion); Sabine Kabongo (vocals); Alegre Correa (guitar); Linley Marthe (bass); Karim Ziad (drums). It was powerful and very dynamic. What a gig! :-)
