Learn How To Play Pull-Offs: Essential Funk Bass Technique – Part 1

Today’s lesson explores the pull-off technique, an essential element of bass playing. While it’s typically used in funk, this can be applied across all genres of music. I consider it the sibling technique to the hammer-on because they’re essentially the opposite of one another… either we’re “hammering on” to play a note with the pressure of our fretting hand, or we’re “pulling off.”

Enjoy working through this technique and explore a few grooves in the key of E. Be on the lookout for part two of this series, and in the meantime, keep it groovy!
