Here’s a clip of Evan Brewer tapping out an original tune on two basses. The song is the third track from his upcoming solo bass CD. Thanks to Shannon Buck for sharing this with us!

This bassist is rocking his bass version of Jimi Hendrix’s “The Wind Cries Mary”. Does anyone know who this is? Update: the bassist is “Lomanis”

Here’s a great clip of Doug Johns performing one of his infamous bass solos at the drum set. Doug calls it the “monkey show”. He starts with a rendition of the Jaco Pastorius tune “Continuum” before launching into an all out funk attack. The video was shot at One Mind Studios in 2009.

Joseph Garcia sent in this video of bassist Wally Voss, a shredding master who spent time in the ’80s touring with Yngwie Malmsteen. Here is a face-melting solo he played with the band Front Runner, before joining Malmsteen. “This is a must-see for fans of Cliff Burton and Billy Sheehan,” Garcia wrote, and we couldn’t agree more!

We last featured bassist Daniel Ziegler and his Jonas Hellborg-inspired bass arrangement of “Little Wing”. This time, Daniel performs his unique take on Victor Wooten’s “Slow Groove”.

Here’s bassist Nicolas Dubouchet, jamming around the tune “Big Noise From Winnetka” on French TV.

Mina Burnside is a 14 year old bassist from Nashville who began playing three and a half years ago. In this clip, she takes on a monster of a bass tune: Jaco Pastorius’ “Portrait of Tracy”. We love seeing (and sharing!) the many young players who demonstrate their dedication and willingness to tackle some tough tunes and show the world....

Here’s a pretty cool solo bass piece by upright bassist Hartmut Kracht, who adds a little to the performance by playing his upright like a bass guitar. I used to get in trouble for this in orchestra class back in the day!

Here’s bassist Nathan Navarro showing some impressive skills while performing one of his own original funk compositions.

Lucio Marrone, a bassist from Argentina sent in this video, featuring his arrangement of a popular Argentinian tune, “11 and 6”, by Fito Paez. Lucio performs his all bass arrangement on both fretted and fretless basses.

In this video, electric bassist Larry Wilson plays his rendition of “Voodoo Child” by Jimi Hendrix. The best part of this video is that Wilson is playing in the New York Subway System, demonstrating that good music can happen anywhere.

In response to the NPR Bass Solo contest, bassist Blake Branch submitted his arrangement of “Raspberry Heaven” by Masumi It? and Y?ko Ueno. The tune comes from the anime series “Azumanga Daioh”. Thanks to Alex Kalicinski for sharing this video with us.
