Simon Hayden originally wrote and recorded “Soweto Groove” for fretless guitar. Then he recorded this double bass version. We may be partial, but we like the bass version best. (And here’s the first link ever on No Treble to a guitar video, if you want to see the original).

Filmed live at ?the Canadian Guitar Festival in Ontario last July, Michael Manring took the stage with his headless Zon bass and some slow blues. He eventually works up to a faster pace, leading him in to a rockin’ all-bass version of “Born to Be Wild”.

I’ve officially spent way too much time watching videos by Guido Ponzini. As difficult as it was to pick a video to feature, this one has some nifty fretless bass work on one of Ponzini’s original compositions, “Chattin’ with Barbarella Bennett”.

Here’s bassist Aram Bedrosian, performing his solo bass tune “A Dark Light”. For those industrious types, Aram offers notation/tabs of this and other compositions of his on his website.

Dani Weber‘s solo bass work has been featured here before, and this is a nice piece we were recently checking out. Dani is playing his ’86 Warwick Thumb NT with piccolo strings tuned E – G# – B – E.

Bassist Junior Ribeiro Braguinha uses these words to describe his performance in this video: “de groove de pizzicato”. I say, “holy smokes!”
