The progressive metal heroes of Periphery have returned with a new album, “Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre.” The band once again recruited former member Adam “Nolly” Getgood to co-produce the album as well as play bass.

Hans Zimmer has composed some of the most epic soundtracks. Lately, he’s been performing that music on tour. Now he’s released “Hans Zimmer LIVE,” with two bassists: Andy Pask and Juan Garcia-Herreros, aka Snow Owl.

Buckle up: Evan Marien and Dana Hawkins have teamed up for another EvanxDana album, and they’ve brought some friends along for the ride. The bass and drum duo’s “Elysian” has a wide variety of guests.

The masterful Christian McBride has released a second album with his New Jawn quartet called “Prime.” Even without the use of a traditional chordal instrument such as guitar or piano, the band covers a lot of ground.

As a member of post-punk icons The Raincoats, Gina Birch put her stamp on the world with her music. Now she’s making another statement with “I Play My Bass Loud,” which marks her solo album debut and serves as a sort of self-portrait.

Everyone’s favorite virtual band has returned. “Cracker Island” marks the eighth studio album from Gorillaz, and it sees character bassist Murdoc Niccals and his bandmates joined by tons of talented guests.

Motörhead’s 23rd and final album, “Bad Magic,” has been re-released in a new package called “Bad Magic: Seriously Bad Magic.” Originally released in 2015 before Lemmy Kilmister’s passing, the album presents the original music plus a bevy of new aural pleasures.

Bassist Ben Wolfe has returned with a new solo album titled “Unjust” that is described as celebrating “the striking interplay between multiple ensembles driven by the same steadfast rhythm section.”

Groove master Sharay Reed has released a new EP simply titled “Bass.” Reed’s big, beautiful tone is ever-present as he grooves, comps, and solos over the tracks.

In Flames continues to charge on with their 14th studio album, titled “Foregone.” Bryce Paul Newman’s rumbling bass beefs up the whole album.

A new live greatest hits package from The Rolling Stones has hit the streets. “GRRR Live!” is comprised of 24 tracks from their “50 & Counting” tour with the rock-solid grooving of Darryl Jones.

Modern bluegrass band Mile Twelve has just dropped their third album, “Close Enough to Hear,” and it is gorgeous. The effort may be more intimate and softer than their previous work, but it showcases the maturity and delicacy they’ve attained.
