Jazz pianist Emmet Cohen has released “Uptown in Orbit” with drummer Kyle Poole and bassist Russell Hall. Hall is completely in step with Cohen in blending styles from the years.

Progressive outfit Polyphia has returned with their fourth studio album, “Remember That You Will Die.” The group is primarily instrumental, but they brought on a host of guest artists, including vocalists.

Trevor Dunn has revived his Trio Convulsant for the first time in 18 years for the album Séances. The album sees the reunion of the group while adding to the genre-bending sounds with Folie à Quatre.

Marcelo Yakko is back with a new solo album called “El Viaje Infinito.” The bassist recorded it with bass, drums, and keyboards. The lack of guitars opens room for Yakko to take melodies with the bass as well as more chordal work.

At long last, the debut album from Obsidious is available. “Iconic” has been in the works for 15 months following the group’s formation after Rafael Trujillo, Sebastian Lanser, and Linus Klausenitzer left the ranks of Obscura.

John Entwistle’s deep cuts have been unearthed with the new album, “Rarities Oxhumed: Volume One,” which features demos, outtakes, and live cuts from his career.

After six years of production, the documentary “Ron Carter: Finding The Right Notes” has been released via PBS. The film’s soundtrack has also been released.

Miët has dropped a new album for 2022 with “Ausländer.” The project is a one-woman band and the brainchild of Suzy LeVoid, who performs all the instruments and programming on the record.

The legacy of Charles Mingus is continuing to be celebrated this year by his legacy bands. Now the Mingus Big Band has released “The Charles Mingus Centennial Sessions,” which marks the 100th anniversary of the bassist and composer’s birth.

Rick Rosato has made his debut as a leader with a new solo bass album called “Homage,” which pays tribute to the blues while returning to his first musical influences. The record was recorded by Rosato alone with no overdubs.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have landed their second album for 2022 with “Return of the Dream Canteen,” making a one-two punch from April’s release of “Unlimited Love.” Flea cited his favorite new tracks too.

Steve Lawson’s music has always carried a certain amount of emotional weight, but his latest release may be the deepest. The solo bass master was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and “TLC” was recorded amidst his chemotherapy treatments.
