Mai Leisz has been keeping busy for the past few years playing with David Crosby in his Sky Trails band. Prior to her incredible journey to the U.S., she was releasing music with her own band, MaiGroup. Now she’s culminated her recent experiences into a new album, aptly entitled “Metamorphosis.”

Cage the Elephant has returned with their fifth studio album, entitled “Social Cues.” It is once again anchored by bassist Daniel Tichenor, who offers up driving bass lines that tie the songs together.

Vocalist Angélique Kidjo’s new album, “Celia,” is a tribute to salsa queen Celiz Cruz, but it’s more than an album of covers. Kidjo brings out the African influences of the Cuban-born singer’s music, thanks in part to bassist Meshell Ndegeocello.

Since turning 50 last year, Trevor Dunn has made a point of releasing his own music. The bassist, who is known for his work with bands like Mr. Bungle and Fantômas, has just put out a new album of classical chamber music.

John Patitucci has returned with a new album called “Soul of the Bass,” which is described as his “most intimate and revealing solo album.” The recording, which marks his 16th solo effort, centers around improvisations on his double bass.

Drummer Mark Guiliana has just released his latest solo album, “BEAT MUSIC! BEAT MUSIC! BEAT MUSIC!” Guiliana enlisted some of his closest musical partners to fill out the album including Jason Lindner, BIG YUKI, and Tim Lefebvre.

The guitar and bass duo of Bill Frisell and Thomas Morgan have released their sophomore album, entitled “Epistrophy.” Named after one of two Thelonious Monk songs they cover, the live album captures the incredible empathy and energy they draw from each other’s playing.

Five months after releasing the successful “Oxnard,” Anderson .Paak has come back with another California city-based album called “Ventura.” Just like its predecessor, the album is full of amazing guests and fat bass lines.

Melissa Etheridge has released The Medicine Show, which marks her 15th studio recording. The singer is supported by a crack team of session musicians including bassist Chris Chaney, who has worked with artists from Jane’s Addiction to Alanis Morissette.

Sego has released their second album, called “Sego Sucks.” The indie-rockers expanded from duo to a quartet between the two releases, adding guitarist Brandon McBride and bassist Alyssa Davey just last year.

DC-based post-punk band Priests have returned with “The Seduction of Kansas,” which marks their second full-length release and sixth album in total. The band continues their politically-leaning themes, starting with the album title.

Periphery has returned with their fourth album called “Periphery IV: Hail Stan.” It marks the first release since Adam “Nolly” Getgood left the official ranks of the band, though they hired him back on to record the bass lines.
