Swedish melodic death metal mainstays At The Gates have just dropped their latest studio album, entitled The Nightmare of Being. The album gave bassist and primary songwriter Jonas Björler plenty to work with.

After dropping their debut EP, “Doom”, in May of 2020, Doom Flamingo has released a companion EP called “Flamingo”. The band, founded by Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik, calls it the alter ego to its predecessor.

Jeff Lorber Fusion has returned with a new album called “Space-Time”. The trio, completed by drummer Gary Novak and bassist Jimmy Haslip, welcomes a variety of guests for the effort.

In February of last year, HorrorPops made their first return to the stage in nine years, where they tore through their catalog at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Now, that gig is available as a live album and concert film.

Bass virtuoso Charnett Moffett has returned with his seventeenth album as a leader, entitled “New Love”. The bassist describes the music, recorded in trio and quartet band formats, as a love letter to humanity.

Forty-seven years ago, Charles Mingus performed with his band at Carnegie Hall. A live album, “Mingus At Carnegie Hall”, was issued but excluded much of the 2-hour performance. Now the full concert has been released as a deluxe edition.

At long last, Wolfgang Van Halen’s solo project Mammoth WVH has released its debut album. Van Halen wrote, performed, and recorded all the parts. Although his family name looms large, Wolfgang finds his own sound to live up to that legacy.

Red Fang has released their fifth album, “Arrows”, which they recorded in their hometown of Portland, Oregon with Chris Funk. This marks the third release with Funk, and the result showcases the band doing what they do best plus exploring new sounds.

It’s been 25 years since Squarepusher, aka Tom Jenkinson, released his debut album, “Feed Me Weird Things”. Now the influential bassist and electronica producer has reissued the 14-track collection, which has been long out of print.

Like every other band, Kansas had its tour cut short in 2020. However, they were able to get a year of their Point of Know Return Anniversary shows in before the pandemic. Now they’re sharing a live album, “Point of Know Return Live & Beyond”.

Dave Holland has returned with a new trio record with guitarist Kevin Eubanks and drummer Obed Calvaire. “Another Land” is a studio album, but the songs are derived from themes that developed organically during the concerts before recording.

Composer and bassist Almog Sharvit has marked his debut as a leader with “Get Up Or Cry”, an album that defies genres with shades of jazz, electronica, rock, bluegrass, and even 20th-century classical music.
