Our Facebook friend Charles Hoernemann shared this video with us, with a word one comment: “Awesome!” This is bassist Samuel Haynes, who wrote this tune named “Rapture”, for solo bass and programmed drum accompaniment. Samuel’s bass is strung with piccolo strings.

Check this awesome video of Ojay, a bassist from Newcastle in the UK. Armed with a pair of looping pedals and a couple more effects, Ojay takes it to the streets to bring the funk to the people. It really begs the question: Why can’t more street performers be like this?

Here’s a cool video of Alberto Rigoni bringing back old school gaming memories with a three-bass layered arrangement of the Tetris theme. For authenticity, he used a bitcrusher effect on the lead line for that classic game soundtrack vibe. Also, check out that fretless tone!

Here’s a cool video of Ed Friedland, aka the Bass Whisperer, building up a full on version of Steely Dan’s classic “Do It Again” during a 2010 clinic at the Bass Emporium in Austin, Texas. After “giving the drummer some,” Friedland fills out the tune’s bass line, chords and melody before ripping into a tasty solo.

Here’s another great Christmas medley the way we like it… all on the bass. This is Anthony Wellington, looping some funky beats together for the holidays.

Kent Beatty recorded this solo bass arrangement of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” back in 2008, and it is still awesome. Skip to around the 0:45 mark if you want to get right to the music. Merry Christmas all!
